At least 19 Palestinians lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike on a school in the Al Daraj district of Gaza City, according to Al Jazeera and local health authorities. The school was serving as a refuge for displaced families fleeing other heavily bombed areas.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict, Palestinian Ambassador Majed Bamya expressed deep anguish over the relentless violence.
“How come all of us cannot stop the bombs decimating families and destroying communities?” Bamya asked. He highlighted the daily horrors faced by Gaza’s population: sniper bullets hitting children, lack of medical supplies for amputations, and the inability to deliver basic necessities like milk and bread.
“The whole world chants for Gaza, weeps for Gaza, aches for Gaza, is outraged by what is happening in Gaza. But the people in Gaza, the children of Gaza, have no use for our chants, for our tears, and for our outrage, if they are not accompanied by actions.” pic.twitter.com/Nn0EhpjGiv

Political groups across Latin America and Europe have intensified calls for an immediate ceasefire and an end to Israeli military aggression. They emphasize the urgent need to lift the blockade on Gaza to allow humanitarian aid and medical supplies to reach the besieged population.
These voices denounce the repeated targeting of civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, as violations of international law and crimes against humanity. The massacre at the Al Daraj school is cited as yet another example of the disproportionate violence inflicted on Palestinian civilians.

The attack on the Gaza school underscores the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in the territory, where over 50,000 Palestinians have died since the conflict intensified in October 2023. International solidarity movements continue to pressure governments to hold Israel accountable and to support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and peace.
